The Museum

The topics “Bread and Wine” are front and center at the Museum Herrenmühle in Hammelburg. There are interesting exhibit pieces, graphic displays, and interactive media. Considering that the museum is housed in a former grist mill and the fact that Hammelberg is considered to be Franconia’s oldest wine town, this is a fitting theme.

The museum exhibits Bread and Wine, Groceries and Taste, Life and Work offer something to visitors of all ages.

Since the museum’s reopening in 2017, “museum mice” have populated the old mill building. Why are there mice in the museum? Visitors big and small can find out at the “mice stations” – but you have to find them first!

Visitors also have the option to add a glass of wine to their entry ticket, don a miller’s outfit, and pose for photos to send to friends.

Baderturm Tower and Stair Climbing

Also worth visiting is the Baderturm not far from the museum. From the top, enjoy a wonderful view of the town and the Saale Valley. Anybody wanting to get some exercise while exploring the Herrenmühle and the Baderturm, can do the Hammelburg Stair Climb. Look for stairs, count the stairs, and win prizes. This is great fun for kids and adults alike.

During the summer months, there is also the option of taking Kneipp baths at the mill canal on the museum’s island.
