The Rödelsee Gate is the most famous and oldest of the three remaining town gates in Iphofen. What makes it special? The gate was not designed and constructed by an architect, it grew organically and bears many mysteries. It started out as a simple gate with a small loophole that allowed pass-through late at night. Sometime later on, the unique roof and its hollow ceramic roof tiles were added. Then came the rectangular structure on the left side. The contrast between the blood red wood beams, the light colored stucco, and the rock walls is especially charming.
