The only glass museum in the State of Baden-Württemberg is located in the former “Kallenbach’sche Haus” (1577). Exhibits range from luxury glass items from the antiquity all the way to the rise of the glass industry.
At the Kleines Haus, there is a collection of historical Christmas ornaments with the title “Thuringia’s Christmas Ornament Industry and its Development.” The exhibit honors the Wertheim laboratory glass industry from Thuringia.
There is a rotating schedule of special exhibits. The glass museum is committed to educating visitors about glass as a material: From the manufacturing and processing all the way to its uses in science, technology, medicine, commercial applications, as well as every day life. Of special interest are the glass bead display case, glass blowing demonstrations, and the Christmas exhibit during Advent. There are also many exciting things to do for kids to explore glass as a material.
